D.C. cops shot a man armed with a gun at the scene of another male's shooting death Friday night.
Officers were called to the 5900 block of Chillum Place NE about 6 p.m.
They found one guy suffering from a gunshot injury, authorities said. Geno Freeman, 60, of Hyattsville, later died.
Officers likewise found a man armed with a rifle, authorities said.
He refused orders to put the gun down, and an officer fired at least one shot, striking him, police stated. He was taken to a medical facility. Police say his injuries were not deadly.
The suspect, John Woods, 66, of Silver Spring, is charged with first-degree murder, attack on a law enforcement officer and firearms offenses.
Detectives are examining whether he shot the man who passed away and whether or not he fired at officers, police stated.
“I just think it speaks with the level of violence that we see in terms of individuals having access to firearms,” Chief Robert Contee stated. “In this case, somebody's life has actually been lost. My condolences head out to the household.”
The officer associated with the shooting has been put on administrative leave. Body-worn video camera footage is under evaluation, police say.Source: nbcwashington.com
