- The Metropolitan Police Department officer was stabbed after reacting to a call reporting an assault.

A police officer was stabbed in the head in downtown D.C. early Thursday and a homeless guy intervened to save him, perhaps saving his life, the police chief stated.
The experienced officer was hurried to a healthcare facility with non-life-threatening injuries after being attacked with scissors. The Metropolitan Police Department thanked John Burrows, the man who stepped in.
“It's extremely, very kind– extremely brave, Chief of Police Peter Newsham stated at a news conference.
A 61-year-old male who also is homeless was detained and charged with attack with intent to kill an officer. Detectives have actually not been able to determine a possible intention, Newsham stated. There was no indicator he had any link to the racial justice presentations that have actually been held downtown for weeks.
Burrows told News4 he had formerly met the Second District officer and was simply doing the right thing.
“I got the person's arm and me and the cop together got him under control so he couldn't stab him no more. He got jailed, the police went to the hospital and I think I'm like a little hero,” he stated.
Burrows said he was mad when he saw the guy attacking the officer. “I was truly mad at the man, for just stabbing him for no reason. That made me mad,” he said.” They're my cops. This is my city and I do not desire you stabbing them.”
The D.C. Department of Human Services started a charity event for Burrows “per the demand of the neighborhood,” the contribution page says. He is one of 26 individuals who the city displaced from Franklin Square to enable building of a new park there. The name of the officer was
not immediately launched.
