KENTWOOD, Mich.– With many individuals working out at home, one local chiropractor said he is seeing more overuse injuries lately.
Overuse injuries occur when our muscles, bones, ligaments and tendons go through repetitive stress.
Those injuries are showing up in Doctor Reid Meador's office, Chiropractic Unlimited, in the form of pain in the back, in addition to leg and wrist sprains.
He stated one reason why is that individuals aren't putting in the time to warm up, stretch or hydrate at home before an exercise like they would when they're in a fitness center or a fitness class. And, that can cause issues over time.
“I think among the biggest things right now is individuals are simply finding videos online and, possibly they find one they like, suddenly they're doing that four or five times a week,” explained Dr. Meador.
“It's kind of the same movements over and over which, once again, returns to that overuse injury part of it. So I ‘d state find 3 or 4 different workouts that are working various parts of the body, and try to do those so that those other parts of the body get that rest and healing that they need.”
That pain can even show up as lots of people are working from home right now.
Doctor Meador stated it's important to have a correct work space that permits people to stay up straight and keep the shoulders back to avoid tension on the hip, neck and back.
